This pictorial covers all aspects of maritime activities including the bridges that spanned, the lighthouses that led ships to ports, and the many shipbuilders provided thousands of jobs for over a century.
Many of the communities of this area owe their existence to the Saginaw Bay which was instrumental in bringing settlements to this area. None were benefitted more than Bay City and Saginaw because of their location on the Saginaw River which was capable of handing large ships, and where shipbuilding become a tradition.
Even today, both are important ports of call carrying cargo in and out via the bay to major ports around the world.
