Death of Col. R. L. Richardson Took Place Last Night after a Lingering Illness Was Resident of City For Thirteen Years _________
Col. R. L. Richardson died at 11 o’clock last night at his residence, 511
Mountain Street, after a lingering illness with Bright’s disease complicated with the effects of paralysis. Col Richardson was 62 years old and
a well known figure throughout the Bay Cities, he was totally disabled
and making his way about by means of a tricycle. He is survived by a
widow and three children, Bruce and Harry Richardson, and Mrs. Fanny
Dawson, all of u>West Bay City.
Col. Richardson had been a resident of West Bay City 13 years, coming
here from Akron, O. He served during the civil war in the Thirteenth Ohio
Cavalry and was totally disabled while in the service. He was member of
H.P. Merrill post, G.A.R. , and A.J. Walton command U.V.U. He was a
prominent Mason, having obtained the 32nd degree.
Note: Richardson enlisted in the 5th Independent Ohio Infantry, Company C, as a private at the age of 24 years on August 8, 1863 as a farrier, on January 1, 1864, he was discharged from that unit to enlist in Company B, 13th Ohio Cavalry. He served with that unit until he was dicharged on July 4,1865 at Amelia Court House, Virginia. -- The Colonel must have been a ceremonial or affectionate > title as he was never a commissioned officer.
