Corbin Funeral Friday Afternoon

Deceased was President of Wenona Years Ago
He Came to the Saginaw Valley in 1864

The funeral of the late Charles F. Corbin, mention of whose death which occurred Tuesday night, was made in The Tribune Wednesday, will take place from the house, 209 State street Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock.

Mr. Corbin was born in Scipio, New York, October 22,1812. His early life was that of a farmer’s boy. He resided in Batavia, New York until 1864. The previous year he visited the Saginaw valley and decided to remove here. He located in Bay City but the same year purchased the land now known as the Corbin addition, and in 1868 moved into the house on that property, which has since been his home. He was elected a justice of the peace at the first charter election in Bay City, and served the village of Wenona in various capacities of trustee, assessor, recorder and village president. After West Bay City was incorporated he was supervisor of the Second ward for two years. He also took an active part in the educational affairs of the city, serving on the school board of the old Wenona grade schools for a number of years. The Corbin school, the first school building in its section of the city , was named after him.

Mr. Corbin married Mrs. Julia A. Joslyn, of Leroy, N. Y., in 1842, and their married life extended over a period of 50 years, his wife dying six months ago.
